Started in 2005, Horizon Custom Builders is a true family business. Jay Dunn is President and co-owner of the Company. His wife Brenda works with Jay on finish selection and details. Jay and his wife Brenda live in Wake Forest, North Carolina with their two sons.

Jay Dunn has been in the construction business since 1997, after his graduation from North Carolina State (College of Design) with a degree in Industrial Design.

Co owner/ President (2005-Present)

  • Successfully manage all phases of residential construction of custom homes valued from $300k to $900K +
  • Estimate project costs, perform take-offs and purchase all project materials
  • Supervise crews of carpenters, drywall hangers, foundation and general laborer personnel
  • Schedule, manage and approve all billing of subcontractors and payments in order to control job costs to ensure profitability
  • Responsible for estimating, managing and completing renovation projects     

St. Lawrence Homes, Raleigh, NC
Project Manager (1997-2000, 2003-2008)

  • Effectively managed the construction of up to 25 residential homes simultaneously in multiple developments
  • Trained onsite superintendents to be effective supervisors and use their time efficiently

  • Estimated project costs, performed take-offs and purchased materials working directly with the General Contractor.
